Biography
Farhan
Akhtar is the son of Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. The director turned
actor began his love affair with Bollywood at the age of 17 by
assisting cinematographer-director Manmohan Singh in the making of
Lamhe in 1991. But his main claim to fame came with his directorial
debut - Dil Chahta Hai which he co-produced along with friend Ritesh
Sidhwani. It also won him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film
in Hindi.
Akhtar’s next project, Lakshya, met with mediocre
success. Though the movie did not do as well at the box-office, it won
him much critical acclaim. He then directed a remake of the 1978
Amitabh Bachchan film Don with
Shah Rukh Khan as the new Don.
In
2008, Farhan went from behind the camera to the front. He played the
lead actor in Abhishek Kapoor’s Rock On!! Farhan not only acted but
also penned the lyrics and sang most of the songs in the film. His
performance in Rock On!! has won him many accolades and also the V
Shantaram Award for the Best Debut.
He will now be seen next in sister Zoya Khan’s Luck By Chance in January 2009.
