
Rahul Khanna born on June 20th 1972 is a host and
bollywood actor. He is the brother of Bollywood star Akshay Khanna and son of famous yesteryear idol Vinod Khanna. Rahul was born and grew up in Mumbai and he did his degree from School of Visual Arts and Lee Strasberg institute in New York. He began his career as a Video Jockey in 1994 with MTV. He gained instant recognition and became of the most popular personalities on TV.
Rahul Khanna made his
bollywood debut in 1999 with the movie Earth opposite Amir Khan. This Deepa Mehta movie was a huge critical success and Rahul Khanna was highly appreciated for his role of Hassan, which enabled him to win numerous awards most noticeably the Filmfare Award for Best Debut. He then appeared in another Deepa Mehta movie Bollywood/Hollywood which was an Indo-Canadian movie for which Rahul Khanna again won a lot of critical acclaim. He then did his third movie which was titled The Emperor’s Club directed by Michael Hoffman. This drama film about a prep school teacher and his students received average reviews from the critics.
After his successful art film venture Rahul Starred in his first mainstream
bollywood movie Elaan also starring John Abraham, Arjun Rampal, Amisha Patel and Lara Dutta. The movie flopped badly at the box office but Rahul Khanna again was labeled the highlight of the movie. In 2007, he worked in another
bollywood movie Raqeeb which was a romantic musical opposite Jimmy Shergill, Sharman Joshi and Tanushree Dutta. The movie proved another box office dud.
In 2008, Rahul did another highly critically acclaimed movie Tahaan. The movie based on the life of a young boy and his donkeys won rave reviews and Rahul’s negative character also got praised. His second movie of the year 2008 was the romantic comedy Dil Kabaddi opposite Soha Ali Khan, Irfan Khan, Rahul Bose and Konkona Sen Sharma based on the life of modern day couples was another movie that didn’t do quite well at the box office but won a lot of praise from the critics.
In the year 2009, he made special guest appearances in two big commercial blockbusters Love Aaj Kal and Wake Up Sid.
In 2006, Rahul Khanna hosted the Discovery channel show Discovery Week. He has also featured in ad of Toyota, Audi, Pepsi and Lays. Rahul Khanna is one of the leading supporters of Animal rights and appears regularly in PETA campaigns for Elephant protection.
