 profile Rishi Kapoor born on 4th Sept 1952 is a Bollywood film producer, director and famous actor. He was born in Mumbai to the famous Kapoor family that is known as the first family of Bollywood. He is the son of the legend Raj Kapoor and brother of actors Ranjiv and Randhir Kapoor. He is the husband of actress Neetu Singh and father of actor Ranbir Kapoor. He received his schooling from Campion School in Mumbai.

Rishi Kapoor’s first movie in Bollywood was as a child artist in his father Raj Kapoor’s movie Mera Naam Joker. He made his senior Bollywood debut with the super hit movie Bobby which became a smash hit across India and gave Rishi Kapoor overnight stardom. Bobby was also Dimple Kapadia’s debut movie. His first directorial venture was the 1998 release Aa Ab Laut Chalein starring Akshay Khanna and Aishwarya Rai.

After the super success of his first movie he acted in many yesteryear super hits like Rafoo Chakkar, Laila Majnu, Kabhie Kabhie, Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin, Amar Akbar Anthony, Sargam and many many more. His 1980 release Karz based on Reincarnation became a smash hit at the box office and till date is considered one of the best Indian movies ever. Till the year 2000, he played the lead roles and romanced many young heroines after which he took a little break from movies.
He made a comeback by doing Character Roles and in 2004, starred in the Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee starrer blockbuster Hum Tum, where he played the role of Saif Ali Khan’s father. In 2006, he again appeared in another Yash Raj Films production Fanna opposite Amir Khan and Kajol. In 2007, he was cast in another super hit romantic comedy Namastey London alongside Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, in which he played the role of Katrina Kaif’s father who is considered because of her daughter’s modern and bold life styles. The movie was a huge success at the box office and Rishi won great reviews.

In 2008, he played the role of a film producer in Zoya Akhter’s Luck by Chance. His character was hailed by the critics and audience and it also gave him a nomination for Filmfare best supporting actor. In 2009 he played a role in the Saif Ali Khan and Deepika starrer Love Aaj Kal. The movie was a super hit at the box office and Rishi was appreciated for his soft and intelligent performance. His wife Neetu Singh also appeared in a cameo role alongside him. In 2011, he starred in two major films. The first film was the Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma starrer Patiala House. The movie bombed at the box office but Rishi won great reviews for his act of a dominating and stubborn father of Akshay Kumar. His next release was the low budget movie Do Dooni Chaar opposite his wife Neetu Singh. The movie apart from Rishi and Neetu has a young cast but it turned it to a huge commercial and critical success, which enabled Rishi to win the Filmfare Critics award for the best actor.
Rishi Kapoor is one the few yesteryear actors who have made a successful career doing Character roles. His son’s superstardom is a reflection of Rishi’s talent and competence as an actor. Not only is he a great actor but he is also a devoted husband and a great father
