Sunjay Dutt born on 29th July 1959 is bollywood super star who happens to be the son of famous yesteryear actors Sunil Dutt and
Nargis Dutt.
He made his acting debut with the movie Rocky in 1981 which was directed by his father Sunil Dutt. The movie was not successful at the box office. Sunjay Dutt starred in as many as 28 movies from the time of his debut till 1989. The early 90’s proved to be the time when he finally won recognition in the industry courtesy of his movie Sadak. The movie Sadak which released in 1991 was directed by the legendary Mahesh Bhatt became a big hit and
Sanjay Dutt got noticed for his serious and intense acting.
In the same year, he starred in the blockbuster Saajan which also starred
Salman Khan and
Madhuri Dixit. The movie made critics and audience stand up and take a notice of this talented actor. Sunjay Dutt got rave reviews for his act and it fetched him his first Filmfare best Actor nomination. Sajaan proved to be a turning point in his career as all the big banners wanted to sign Sunjay Dutt in their movies only after the success of this movie. In 1993, things got from good to excellent for Sunjay Dutt as the Subhash Ghai directed Khal Nayak staring Madhuri and Jacky Sheroff became a smash hit at the box office. Sunjay Dutt playing a negative role in the movie won a lot of critical praise from all corners of the industry. The movie was a complete Sunjay Dutt show and he out did his fellow co-stars with ease which enabled him to earn his second Filmfare nomination for the best actor and since then there’s been no looking back for Sanju Baba. More success followed in the shape of Aatish, Dushman, Daag and Kartoos.
In 1999, he unexpectedly did a comedy movie opposite
Govinda titled Haseena Maan Jaayegi. Sunjay known for his action movies and serious role doing an out and out comedy was a big surprise for one and all and what was more surprising was the fact that the audience loved his comic timing and the movie became a huge hit at the box office. In the same year, Sunjay Dutt did the action movie Vaastav: The Reality. The movie based on the life of a Mumbai underworld Gangster became a huge hit at the box office. Sunjay’s performance in the movie was flawless and so good that it won him his first Filmfare best actor award. In his acceptance speech Sanjay said that it feels super good to have finally won the award after 20 years in the industry.
Sunjay got more success with hits like Mission Kashmir, Jodi No 1, Kaante and LOC Kargil. In 2003 Vidhu Vinod Chopra signed him for his romantic comedy Munnabhai M.B.B.S. The movie became a huge hit at the box office and his Character of Munna Bhai the light hearted Gangster a cult amongst the audience. Till date the dialogues and terms used in the movie are being used by youngsters in daily life. His role in this movie will go down as one of the most legendary roles in the history of Indian cinema. Sunjay Dutt won the Filmfare best comedian award for his acting which in my opinion is mightily unfair considering how equally good he was in the emotional and serious scenes of the movie. More success and importantly critical acclaim followed with super performances in movies like Zinda, Tahastu, Lage Raho Munna bhai which was a sequel of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, Eklavya, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Dhamal and blue.
Sunjay Dutt despite going through so much in his personal life is an example for every young actor. His professionalism, humbleness and character are exemplary. Be it serious roles, Gangster roles or Comic roles he is equally good in everything he does. He is set to release his first production venture Rascals opposite
Ajay Devgan and is set to star in Agneepath remake opposite
Hrithik Roshan. Here’s wishing the best of luck to this handsome, charming and brilliant human being
