Sunil Shetty born on 11th August 1961 is a producer, actor and Entrepreneur. He was born in Mangalore in a Tamil family. He changed the spellings of his name from Suniel to Sunil as he believed strongly in numerology.  He is the owner of hotel that specializes in Udupi Cuisine and a boutique named Mischief. He also has started a company Popcorn Entertainment which promotes actors who tour aboard for stage shows.

He began his bollywood career with the 1992 release Balwaan opposite Divya Bharti. The movie was not very appreciated and liked at the box office but gave Shetty a decent start to his career. His next five movies Pehchaan, Anth, Waqt Hamara Hai, Gopi Kishan and Dilwale were all successful ventures at the box office. He was very well appreciated for his role in the comedy Gopi Kishen in which he played a double role. It was the first time he did a comedy. The movie also starred Karishma Kapoor. It was the first time Sunil Shetty did an out an out comedy.

His first blockbuster movie came in the year 1994 when he starred in the Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon starrer Mohra. More good performances followed in movies like Takkar and Shastra. The year 2007 proved a successful one as his movie patriotic war Saga Border became a huge hit at the box office and his performance in the movie was hailed by the critics which led to a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor nomination. His second movie Bhai was another big hit at the box office despite getting released on the same weekend as the blockbuster Dil To Pagal Hai.
The year 2000 proved another smashing year for Sunil Shetty. His first movie Hera Pheri opposite Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal became a huge hit and till date is considered one of the best comic movies ever. His second movie Refugee in which Abhishek Bachan and Kareena Kapoor made their debuts also did quite well at the box office and last but not the least by any mean his movie Dhadkan opposite Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty and Mahima Chaudhary became another smashing hit at the box office and Sunil Shetty for his amazing performance won the Filmfare Best Villain Award. More good performances followed in movies like Pyar ishq aur Mohabbat, Awara Pagal Deewana, Yeh tera ghar yeh mera ghar.

In 2002, he starred in the mega multi starrer action movie Kaante opposite Sunjay Dutt, Kumar Gaurav, Mahesh Manjrekar, Lucky Ali and Amitabh Bachan. In 2003 he starred in two moderate box office hits in the shape of Qayamat: City under Threat and LOC Kargil both of the movies had a patriotic theme. In 2004 Sunil Shetty played the role of Villian in Shahrukh Khan, Sushmita Sen starrer Main Hoon Na. He won amazing reviews for his acting and also earned a Filmfare nomination for Best Villain Award. After that his movie career dipped majorly with flops like Aan, Ek Se Badhkar Ek, Rakht, Blackmail and Tango Charlie. The only hit movie during this time was the multi starrer Dus opposite Abhishek Bachan, Sunjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty and Zayed Khan.

In 2006, he got two hits in the form of Chup Chup Ke and Phir Hera Pheri both movies were comedies. By this time, his hits movie dried considerable and movies like Apna Sapna Money Money, Cash, One Two Three, Mukhbir and Daddy Cool all turned out to be box office flops. In 2009, he starred in the Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal comic flick De Dana Dan which was a relative success. His last two movies No Problem and Thankyou also didn’t do too well at the box office
