Amrita Arora is an Indian actress of Punjabi origin. She was born in Mumbai on January 31st 1981. She is the actress of well known bollywood actress and dancer Malaika Arora Khan. Her sister Malaika is married to actor and producer Arbaaz Khan, who happens to be the brother of bollywood super Star Salman Khan. Her mother is a Christian but she has a Punjabi father. Her friend in bollywood industry is actress Kareena Kapoor.

Before trying her hand at acting she was a VJ on MTV India, where she won the MTV VJ Hunt contest and hosted famous MTV programs like MTV Chillout and MTV Houseful.

Amrita Arora’s first bollywood venture was titled “Kitnay Door Kitne Paas” where she was paired opposite Fardeen Khan. The movie did not excite the audience and it was declared a box office failure. Her second movie was the multi starrer comedy Awara Paagal Deewana staring Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani & Paresh Rawal, where she played the overbearing wife of Aftab Shivdasani. This movie was her first successful venture in bollywood, but not much credit was given to Amrita as it was hero oriented movie.

In the year 2003, she only appeared in one movie, which was David Dhawan’s comedy Ek Aur Ek Gyarah starring Govinda & Sunjay Dutt in lead roles. In 2004, she starred opposite Isha Kopikar, in one of the most controversial movies of her career called “Girl Friend”. The movie was about a lesbian relationship between two female friends, unfortunately for her the movie was a flop despite it being a rather controversial one. Between 2004 & 2009 she appeared in many movies like Raakh, Godfather, Speed, Zameen, Fight Club & Deha. In 2007 she was seen in Om Shanti Om albeit in a guest appearance a song.

In 2008 she was casted in the Multi Starrer Sequel Golmaal Returns that turned out to be a major success at the box office. The movie went on to become of the biggest hits of the year and gave Amrita Arora a much needed hit at the box office. Her third major success in bollywood came in the year 2009, when her movie Kambakht Ishq starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor went on to become a Super Hit. She played the wife of Aftab Shivdasani in the movie. Over the years Amrita has been romantically linked with actor Upen Patel, Ashmit Patel and English Cricketer Usman Afzaal. Amrita Arora finally tied the knot with Prince Shakeel Ladak in March 2009, where she had a Christian Ceremony as well as a Muslim Nikkah. The couple went for a three week honeymoon to Europe and upon her return to India; she described her honeymoon as the perfect road trip. In Feb 2010 she gave birth to her first child a baby boy called “Azaan”. Due to her pregnancy she was omitted from the upcoming movie Season’s Greetings.

Amrita is the brand ambassador of famous brand like Sunsilk, Ponds and Elle 18. She also appeared in the famous talk show “Koffee with Karan” alongside her sister Malaika Arora.

Amrita’s girl next door looks and confident personality ensured that she didn’t live in her sister’s shadow for a lengthy period, but having said that she has not found it easy in bollywood as she only has a few successful movies to her credit. Not too many directors have shown complete faith in her as a front line heroine, as she has mainly starred in multi starrer movies, in all her successful movies she has featured as a supporting actress, but despite that she has held her own in the industry.
