The slot where Jaya Bachan stands has been vacant before her and till date no actress has been decent enough to occupy her vacated place. No Vulgar scenes, no cheap movies, no nude scenes. She had a class of her own. No wonder the golden boy of yesteryears Amitabh Bachan fell for her. Her acting skills were at par with Shabana Azmi, fit for art movies but Shabana did once in her life time give love & sex scenes. She was as expressive as Raakhi but gave no “Suhaag raat scenes”. When the controversy of Rekha and Amitabh was at its peak she committed to do Silsila. Silsila showed the real life story between Rekha & Amitabh, but this great lady never showed a mood or gave a comment on her husband. She atlast won the heart of her husband and her in laws.

Starting from Mahangar as a child artist at the tender age of fifteen, She made her debut as an adult actress in screen roles with the movie Guddi back in 1971 and since there has been no looking back.she gave hits like Guddi, Anamika, Jawani Dewani, Kohshish, Piya ka ghar, Bawarchi, Zanjeer, Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke and the all time blockbuster Sholay. Acting is not the only forte of Jaya Bachan. She has also been involved in politics by getting elected as a Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament in which she was representing Rajya Sabha. As per her media statements, Bachan is all set to complete her term.

As far as her personal life is concerned, Jaya Bachan entered the bond of marriage with Amitabh Bachan on 3rd June 1973. While her son Abhishek Bachan is a prominent face in the industry, her daughter Shweta Bachan Nanda is married to the famous industrialist from Delho, Nikhil Nanda. Jaya Bachan is grandmother to two children, Navya Naveli and Agastya Nanda. Presently her daughter in law, Ashwariya Rai Bachan is also enroute to becoming a mother.

Jaya Bachan has a wide list of awards and nominations to her name. in 1974 she won the Filmfare best actress award for Abhimaan. In the following year she won the Best actress award again for Kora kaga. Her role in the film Nauker also earned her the Filmfare best actress award in 1980. In 1998 her efforts were appreciated when she received the award for Filmfare Special Performance Award due to her contribution to the film industry. And in 2007 Jaya Bachan achieved the lifetime achievement award.

In recent years she has proven her skill, talent and her presence in the hearts of millions of fans by acting as a supporting actress in various movies. She won the best supporting actress award thrice; in 2001 for Fiza, in 2002 for Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum and in 2004 for Kal Ho Na Ho.

Apart from national awards, Jaya Bachan has received the International Indian Film academy awards for Fiza, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum and Kal ho na Ho as well. The Bengali film journalist association also awarded her the special award for her debut as an adult actress for film Guddi.

Her honors and achievements are not only restricted to the film industry. Jaya Bachan was awarded the Padma Shru honor, which is India’s fourth highest civilian award given from the Government of india to selected persons. She is also a recipient of the Yash Bharati Saman and the Omega award for Excellence.

Jaya Bachan has come a long way in to the bollywood industry. Starting from the Bengali movies in 1963, she is still a major face in the hindi film industry. Her charm and her acting is without a doubt the best of not only the old times, but also of present era.
