Lisa Ray is a Canadian born Model and Actress. She was born on April 4th 1972 in Toronto Canada. Lisa Ray’s father was a Bengali Indian residing in Canada and her mother was a polish. When Lisa was sixteen she was on a vacation in India when she was spotted by a modeling agency, she soon began modeling for them after that. She was brilliant in her academics and always did well.
She first appeared in a swimsuit on a cover of a magazine in India, which caused quite a stir. After that she was flooded with offers for Magazine covers, hosting and representative deals. There was a poll conducted by leading Indian Newspaper Times of India in which she was named the “Ninth most beautiful woman of the Millennium”
She made her long awaited
bollywood debut in Vikram Bhatt’s murder mystery Kasoor opposite Aftab Shivdasani. She played the role of a lawyer who is trying to save a murder suspect. She had to get her voice dubbed for the movie, as she had difficulties delivering her dialogues in Hindi. The movie turned out to be a box office success and because of her Goddess like looks she was instantly the talk of the town. So impressed was film maker Deepa Mehta that she casted Lisa instantly in her Anglo-Indian comedy Bollywood/Hollywood in the year 2002. Following the success if Bollywood/Hollywood Deepa Mehta gave her another movie, this time it was the Critically Acclaimed film Water. For Water Lisa dubbed in Hindi herself but eventually her voice was replaced in the final hour of editing.
Since that time Lisa has only worked in foreign movies. Her 2007 release I Can’t think straight caused quite a stir as she played an Christian-Arab Lesbian girl who falls has a relationship with an Indian girl. The movie won Lisa rave review as her acting in this Anglo-Indian flick was first grade. Her second release of the same year Kill Kill Faster Faster also remained in the news for the wrong reasons as did featured in candid sex scenes in the movie, something that is not that common for a conventional Indian actress.
Apart from movies she has features in Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s famous song Afreen Afreen’s
music video. Lisa has been in a relationship with Photographer Paolo Zambaldi. In 2009 she was diagnoses with white blood cell cancer a.k.a Plasma cells, but thankfully in April 2010 she told the media that she underwent a stem cell transplant and is now Cancer free.
Lisa has regularly featured in many international magazine covers. She was voted as one of the “50 most beautiful women in the country” by Hello Magazine in Canada. Her next major assignment is a documentary drama based on the lives of people who have survived the trauma of cancer and came back to lead a normal life. The Documentary is titled 1 a Minute.
Though Lisa Ray had a brief stint in
bollywood but this Blue eyes siren will always be remembered for the Magazine covers, Afreen Afreen and her hot act in the movie Kasoor.
