Rekha is one of the versatile and finest actresses of indian film industry. She belongs to a Telugu speaking ganesan family. She was born on 10th October 1954 in Madra, India. Her father name is Gemini who was a famous Tamil actor. Her mother’s name is Pushpavali who was a popular Tamil actress. Rekha has eight siblings that include seven sisters and one brother. And her father never paid any parental guidance towards to his children. Her birth name is Bhanurekha Gemini Ganesan. One of her sister’s names is Radha who lives in San Francisco while other is a famous doctor named Dr Kamala Selvaraj.

In 1966, rekha started off her professional career in Telugu Film industry by working as a child actress in “Rangula Ratnam”. She worked with her mother in this film. The film was remade in Hindi in 1976. After that she worked in another Telugu film “Amma Kosam”. Than she did a Kannada film”Goadalli CID 999”. After doing these movies her family shifted to Mumbai. Because of the broken relationship between her parents she always remains gloomy and pessimist in her early years. She made a debut in the Bollywood film industry with the film “Sawan Bhadon” in which she worked with Navin Nischol. The film was  a huge success. Earlier she had a plum body and find it difficult to speak hindi. So she took her career seriously and joined Yoga and Hindi classes. She also got training in dance as well. In 1976 she came up with a new look and name “Rekha” and ended up gaining a status of sex symbol in the Bollywood film industry. Her new look was really appreciated and loved by the public. Rekha started off by giving super hit films one after another. Some of her films are Nagin, Muqadar ka Sikandar, Khoon bhari maang, Khoobsoorut, Rampur ka lakshmun, Pran Jaye pur Vachun na jaye. Due to her smart figured she was always approached for the roles of a glamorous girl in the film. Her abilities as an actor were never recognized until 1976 when she was offered a role of an ambitious and greedy wife other than a glamorous girl. She was casted in the film “Do Anjanne” against Amitabh Bachan. The film was a super hit at Box Office and through this film Rekha got an immense popularity. In 1978, she performed one of the best roles in her film Ghar. The film proved to be a turning point of her life. In this film, she played the character of a Rape victim. She was casted against Vinod Mehra in the movie Ghar. Rekha received so many positive responses and her work was greatly appreciated by the public. After this movie she was nominated for the Best Actress in the Film Fare Awards.

The Film career of rekha is spanned over 45 long years. She has delivered a long list of movies in which she has shown her abilities in performing different characters. In 1980, rekha did another comedy based movie” Khoobsoorut” directed by Hrishkesh Mukherjees. The film was chosen for the nest movie in the film fare awards. Rekha did a tremendous acting in this film and won her first best actress award. She also worked with Amitabh Bachun in several films. She was involved in a very serious scandal with Amitabh bachan and had an off screen relationship with him. People criticized their relationship a lot as Amitabh was already married to Jaya Bahaduri. Their relationship ended with the film Silsila which was directed by Yash Chopra.
