Tabu or Tabassum Hashmi is the well known Indian actress in the Indian film industry. With more than 50 movies to her credit, she is clearly the great super actress in India. She is among the actors in India who have worked most of the time in the low-budget movies, but those movies were the great success in the box office of India. Therefore, Tabu is recognized to be one of the great actresses of our time. Born in Hyderabad India on November 4th, 1970, the nearly 41 year’s old actress has much to offer to the filmmakers. She was born in the house of Rizwana and Jamal Hashmi, and yet there is the contradiction about the year of birth. Some people say that her birth year is 1971. Anyhow, soon after when Tabu was a child, her parents separated and divorced. She belonged to the well educated family of professors who have taught in the great colleges of India, hence, her education in the best schools and colleges was never a problem. At first Tabu went in St. Anns high school which is situated in Hyderabad, while in 1983, she went to St. Xavier’s College when she to Mumbai.

In the early movies of Tabu, she made the small appearances including “Bazaar” in 1980, while later in 1985; she appeared in “Hum Naujawan” when she was just at the age of 15. Not only she got the role in the Hindi movies, but later on, she was offered the roles in Telugu movie namely “Coolie No. 1.” In 1987, she was in cast in the movie “Prem” where she worked with Sanjay Kapoor, however, this movie took 8 years in making. The next movie of Tabu was “Pehla Pehla Pyar,” but it was not a success. She went to the great fame when she appeared in “Vijaypath” released in 1994, where her male counterpart was Ajay Devgan. Through this movie, she made to her first award in Debut in Filmfare awards. Later on, there were no other significant movies of Tabu that received such a big fame as Vijaypath. After the year 1994, Tabu appeared in 8 movies in 1996, namely Saajan Chale Sasural, Maachis, Jeet, Kalapani, Kadhal Desam etc. these movies were all Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil, and 1996 also brought her number of awards including Best actress award in National Film Award.

From 1998-2009, she appeared in great number of movies, and all of them are the great testaments to her work. Most of the movies in these years were super hit as she worked with the great passion in them. These includes: Border, Astitva, Virasat, Hum saath saath hain: we stand united, Chandni Bar, Biwi No.1, Ninne Pelladutha, Fanaa, Cheeni Kum, The Namesake, Hera Pheri, and many more. All of these movies were the great hit for Tabu and through these movies she became the icon in the Indian film industry. Along with these, she has also received the awards, not only in India, but also on the international level. These movies were diverse in roles, and Tabu had performed well in them. These languages in them were Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu. No matter what the language was Tabu was great in all of them. The awards she won include the 2 times for the best acting awards in Filmfare Critics awards, Best actress award of National Film award, and the award in the 2003 Toronto International Film festival. All of these awards are a proof that Tabu is the great actress who is blessed with the great vision and the acting skills. Not only her movies were the biggest hits, but those movies have done the great deal of business in their time.
