Biography:
Tulip was born and brought up in
Mumbai. Tulip is a mixture of a Hindu Gujarati father and a Christian
Lebanese mother, as a result she practiced both Hinduism and
Christianity. But now that she is engaged to Captain (Retd.) Vinod Nair
she’s converted to Kimmaya, a religious order founded by her husband.
Before becoming an actress, tulip had participated in the Femina
Miss India Contest in 2000, However she was unable to make it to the
finals, but she definitely got noticed and after that she did
commercials for many popuplar brands like Pepsi, Smirnoff, Siyaram's,
Ponds, BPL, Coca Cola etc.. She has also appeared in a video-tribute to
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
When she was attending the wedding reception of Yash Chopra's son,
Aditya, tulip was noticed and asked to audition for a role in 'Mere
Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai' for even which she got selected and became her
debut movie. As she was not fluent in hindi she got herself trained in
Hindi diction and in acting at Feroze Khan’s studio and was re-named
Sanjana as many filmmakers found the name very unconventional. The film
was quite a success. But despite the good reviews and success, Tulip
was criticised for her acting. Afterwards, she did not appear in any
movies or commercials for close to two years, due to severe back
problems, resulting from a slipped disc and a shifted spine. But in
2005, her come-back with 'Matrubhoomi'- a dark film about a futuristic
world with almost no women got her a lot of praise and established her
credibility as an actress. Reverting back to her given name, Tulip next
appeared in the Telugu film Villain and Hindi movie Dil Maange More
with Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia and Soha Ali Khan.
