1-MINUTE RESUME FOR BARBRA STREISAND

One of the most commercially and critically successful female entertainers in modern entertainment history, Streisand first tasted fame as a teenage nightclub singer after a boyfriend helped her create an act. She fulfilled her dream of becoming an actor by appearing onstage over the years but it was her first film, Funny Girl (1968), based on her Broadway hit of the same name, that introduced her to a whole new audience and garnered her the Academy Award for Best Actress. Musicals like Hello, Dolly! (1969), screwball comedies such as What's Up, Doc? (1972) and dramatic turns in The Way We Were (1973) and A Star Is Born (1976) only increased her celebrity. As a triple-threat producer/director/star, "Babs" is best known for Yentl (1983) and The Prince of Tides (1991) and as Ben Stiller's mother in 2004's Meet the Fockers.

5 Things:

1. She and singer/songwriter Neil Diamond attended the same high school, sang together in choir and together released the smash hit duet, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers."
2. She and Shirley MacLaine celebrate their shared birthday together every year.
3. She was the first person ever to receive a Grammy, an Emmy, an Oscar and a Tony, the latter being a non-competitive award for Star of the Decade which is why many people attribute this first to others.
4. She has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with the Columbia Records label and has sold 70 million records worldwide.
5. She was once a switchboard operator.

Quote:

"I hate tooting my own horn, but after Steven Spielberg saw Yentl, he said, 'I wish I could tell you how to fix your picture, but I can't. It's the best film I've seen since Citizen Kane."
