Her parents divorced when she was very young; her mother raised the actress in New Jersey, and by age 9 she was doing regional theater. With a chaperone, she moved to L.A. at age 13, landing a part on TV's Blossom and her breakthrough role as Alicia Silverstone's sidekick in 1995's Clueless. She dismissed the cutesy route (most of the time) and went for edgier stuff: Eminem's trashy galpal in 8 Mile, a meth-head in Spun, a loonybin nutjob in Girl, Interrupted and waitress Shellie in Sin City.


1. She says that Eminem taught her the right way to give "the finger" while making 8 Mile It took her 17 takes to get it right.
2. She's been living with her mother since May 2005.
3. She's broken her nose three times: in a car accident, doing a handstand in a Jacuzzi and bumping heads with her mother when they were about to kiss each other goodnight.
