Despite her rough background (her father left the family, her abusive stepfather moved them around some 40 times before committing suicide when Demi was 16, her mother was an alcoholic and Demi herself had drug and alcohol problems), public opinion has generally been against Moore, largely because of her diva reputation and publicity-seeking stunts like posing for Vanity Fair's cover while very pregnant. After becoming Hollywood's highest-paid actress in the mid-'90s, Moore faded from the radar until Charlie's Angels put her back on the map — that and dating Ashton Kutcher, 15 years her junior.
