The youngest of five children, Quigley (shortened to 'Q' for her Asian
audience) was born to an American father and Vietnamese mother.
Venturing off the Hawaiian island of Oahu at the age of 18, Maggie
quickly found herself working as a very successful and sought-after
model in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Her breakthrough into the film
world was when she won the lead role in the Jackie Chan-produced, Hong
Kong action thriller Gen-Y Cops. Chan was so impressed with her on-screen performance that he cast her in other projects including the award-winning Manhattan Midnight and Rush Hour 2.
As a bona fide superstar in East Asia, it's safe to say that Maggie has
successfully crossed the Pacific given her starring roles in such
Hollywood blockbuster fare as Mission: Impossible III and Live Free or Die Hard.
5 Things:
1. Her parents met while her father (himself of Polish and Irish descent) was stationed in Vietnam.
2. Maggie used to dream of becoming a veterinarian.
3. For her first several Hong Kong films she had to learn her lines phonetically because she didn't speak Cantonese.
4. As a supermodel in Asia, she appeared on more than 100 magazine covers.
5. She was cast in Live Free or Die Hard without an audition.
Quote:
"You know what is really funny is that I love being kind of dirty, and
not having to look nice because when you look nice you kind of have to
look nice all the time." TeenHollywood.com, 2006
