Although she's thought of as a member of the Australian acting elite currently taking over Hollywood, Naomi Watts was actually born and raised in England, not moving to Australia until she was in high school. There, she took acting classes and befriended a fellow teen thespian, a certain Nicole Kidman. After trying her hand in the fashion world, Watts dedicated herself to acting, moving to Hollywood in the early-'90s and gaining small parts in films like 1995's Tank Girl and 1996's Children of the Corn IV. A breakout eluded Watts until 2001, when she starred in David Lynch's critically heralded Mulholland Drive. Since then her career has truly taken off, with the actress earning both professional accolades in the form of her first Oscar nomination for 2003's 21 Grams, as well as box office clout with the profitable The Ring horror franchise.
