After graduating with a film degree from Bringham Young University, Eckhart landed bit parts in smaller films, leading up to his big break in Neal LaBute's In the Company of Men (1977). The working relationship would prove to be fruitful for Eckhart, who starred in four more of the director's films, including 2000's Nurse Betty. Worldwide fame (or at least, recognition) came when he played opposite Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich. He followed with the John Woo-directed Paycheck in 2003, and the lead in 2005's Thank You For Smoking.
