
A fine director, admirable producer and a writer, Judd Apatow is famous for making some very fine and blockbusters comedy flicks. His comedy movies The 40 Year-old Virgin and Knocked Up have carved his mark in the film industry as successful film maker.
Apatow was born on 6 December 1967 in Syosset, New York to Jewish parents. From an early age, Apatow had an inclination towards comedy. He made up his mind to become a professional comedian at a young time. Judd Apatow is married to actress Leslie Mann. They have two daughters, Maude and Iris together.
During his high school he initiated and began hosting a radio show. He interviewed those comedians whom he liked much and his preferred comedy personalities included Steve Allen, Howard Stern and John Candy. At the end of his higher studies’ year, he himself started entertaining the audiences with his performances. He started and carried out humoristic pieces.
He appeared on HBO's Young Comedians special. During that time he found that his writing career was moving up, so ultimately he stopped performing. From there, he co-created The Ben Stiller Show which was a huge success. This show was awarded an Emmy Award for the script, which Apatow co-shared with the writers of the show. Unluckily the show got cancelled after airing 12 episodes.
After this venture, Apatow did not waste his time and moved on with another project. He worked on The Larry Sanders Show as a writer and producer. He received great recognition and acknowledgment for his show and it proved to be career start for him, as a director and producer. Following that, he took charge as an executive producer of the Freaks and Geeks and also contributed as a writer and director for few of its episodes. This series was an award-winning and it made his mark in the industry. He also executive-produced and directed several episodes of the series Undeclared. This series was declared as one of Time magazine's Ten Best Shows of 2001.
Moving more and more in the production and direction, Apatow jumped in as the writer and executive producer of Heavyweights and Celtic Pride. However, none of them proved a success or a hit at the box office.
Apatow made his first appearance as a director in the film The 40 Year-Old Virgin which casted Steve Carell, who in cooperation wrote the screenplay with him. The film very successful and it grabbed around $109 million. This flick also begs him an award at the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Comedy movie. He put his feet in the direction of another film, Knocked Up, starring Katherine Heigl. He casted most of the actors for Knocked up from his previous film ventures. It proved a great comedy movie and was also a huge hit. He has also co-written a comedy flick You Don’t Mess with the Zohan with Adam Sandler. During his career he has produced up to nine movies and directed up to four.
There is still a smooth way for Apatow, he can again enthrall and entertains the audience around the globe with his pleasantry masterpieces like The 40 Year-Old Virgin or Knocked Up.
