1-MINUTE RESUME FOR MARC ANTHONY
Marco "Skinny" Anthony was born and raised in Manhattan. Anthony began
his career as a session vocalist and songwriter for Latin artists in
NYC until he broke through on his own with his debut album, "Otra nota"
in 1993. He has since released 13 albums in English and Spanish,
achieving international multi-platinum status. He made his film debut
in a small role in Brian DePalma's
Carlito's Way, playing a singer. Small acting roles followed in
Natural Causes (1994),
Hackers (1995),
Big Night (1996) and
The Substitute (1996). He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of freaky ER patient "Noel" in Martin Scorsese's
Bringing Out the Dead (1999) and rubbed elbows with an Oscar-winning co-star in
Man on Fire (2004). His first starring role came in 2007's
El Cantante, an autobiography of Salsa King Hector Lavoe. The film co-stars his wife, Jennifer Lopez, who also produced the project.
5 Things:
1. Anthony has sold more salsa records than any other artist.
2. VH1 ranked him #76 on their list of 100 Sexiest Artists.
3. His parents named him after Mexican singer Marco Antonio Muñiz, who was also famous in Puerto Rico.
4. Married Jennifer Lopez only four days after his divorce from Dayanara Torres was finalized in the Dominican Republic.
5. His first major gig was opening for Tito Puente at New York's Madison Square Garden.
Quote:
"I had people who kept me in line. I was fortunate in that way. Now it
would seem that people's best interests are just to keep the star happy
as long as the money is still coming in."
