Michael Chiklis Profile & Biography

Name: Michael Chiklis

Birth Name: Michael Charles Chiklis

Birthdate: Aug. 30, 1963

Birthplace: Lowell, Mass.
1-MINUTE RESUME FOR MICHAEL CHIKLIS

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Michael Chiklis moved to NYC as a young man to take the acting world by storm. After years of struggling, he finally got the part of a lifetime: the lead in the John Belushi biopic Wired, which was universally panned and a major bomb. After a move to Hollywood and a string of cameos in sitcoms like Seinfeld and Murphy Brown, Chiklis finally landed the lead in the critical and popular cop drama The Commish, which lasted for five years. After that, it was back to the bit parts and a quickly cancelled sitcom Daddio. Finally, after re-inventing himself as a gruff and tough leading man, Chiklis landed the part that would win him the accolades and awards he so desired: that of corrupt cop Vic Mackey in The Shield. With that finally under his belt, the movies and the Thing in the Fantastic Four films specifically weren't far behind …

5 Things:

1. Is actually a lifelong fan of the Fantastic Four comics and the Thing in particular.
2. It was his wife's idea to transform himself from a doughy comedian to a lean, mean action hero.
3. His family ancestry hails from the Greek isle of Lesbos.
4. Also speaks fluent Greek and Spanish.
5. Also starred in another biopic, as Curly Howard in a TV-movie about the Three Stooges.

Quote:

On winning his Emmy: "When they called my name, my eyes went from pinpricks to huge pupils. Everything was in slow motion, then I thought, Holy s**t, schmuck, it's you! Get up!"
