Freeman has gravitated toward wise and mystical characters, and he's been quoted as saying he has never played a romantic lead. His career started off with the PBS children's television series The Electric Company, before he moved into parts in dramas like Street Smart. After roles in a string of well-received films — Glory, Driving Miss Daisy (for which he was Oscar-nominated), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves — Freeman landed a co-starring part in Clint Eastwood's acclaimed western Unforgiven, which firmly cemented his status on Hollywood's A list. Since then, he's run the gamut from thrillers such Se7en to comedies such as Bruce Almighty (in which he modestly accepted the role of God). In 2005, he finally won his Oscar for his performance in Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby.
