Among the famous Hollywood film actors and producers is a name of Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise was born in USA in 1962.  His mother was a school teacher who was divorced by his husband when Tom was just 11. Tom moved away with his mother thereafter. Cruise and his family suffered from dyslexia which made difficulties for Cruise to succeed in his academic qualification. Tom took interest in athletics and also once aimed to become a priest but he could not become what he thought to be.
 
Tom’s first step towards his acting carrier of actor was a musical play Guys and Dolls which he participated in on teacher’s encouragement to do so.  It was not an open public musical play rather it was played in the school. In 1981, Tom appeared in Endless Love and during the same period of time he took part in a small role in the military school drama Taps. ‘Taps’ opened the doors for Tom Cruise to get success in his future life. Many filmmakers got their attentions focused on Tom Cruise’s potential. His next film ‘The Outsiders’ didn’t get much attention of public but it allowed him to work with an acclaimed director in a high profile project. The next film of Cruise was ‘Risky Business’ (released in August 1983) which not only made Cruise a highly recognizable actor but also earned great revenue. The revenue earned by this film was $65 Million. Cruise’s forth film was ‘All the Right Moves’. In 1986, ‘Top Gun’ film of Cruise was opened which earned highest grossing film of the year. It made over $350 million worldwide. The next film of Cruse in the same year was ‘The Color of Money’.

The next two highly successful films of Cruise were ‘Cocktail’ and ‘Rain Man’. In Cocktail, Cruise acted as a player of bartender. This film was a light-hearted tale. The film “Rain Man” was also highly successful. This film won four out of the eight Academy Awards which it was nominated for.

During 1990’s and 2000’s Cruise took part in the series of ‘Mission Impossible’ action films. This film was Cruise’s first project as a producer. This movie was the third best-selling movie of the year. In the same eras, Cruise started a variety of films such as Days of Thunder (released in 1990), A Few Good Men (released in 1992) and Minority Report (released in 2002).

Many magazines became a source of Cruise’s popularity. During the years following 1990, People magazine listed him among the 50 most beautiful people in the world. He was rated among the top 5 film stars of all time by the magazine Empire in1997. In 2002 and 2003, the magazine Premiere listed him among the top 20 in its annual Power 100 list. Cruise was declared the most powerful actor by the same magazine in 2006. In the same year, Forbes Magazine ranked Cruise as the world’s most powerful celebrity.

Cruiser married in 1987, to Mimi Rogers. The marriage life of both partners can not continue for a long time, they divorced in 1990. It is believed that Scientology (the religious sect of which he is now figurehead) was introduced to Cruiser by his first wife. Cruiser said that Scientology has helped him overcome dyslexia. Cruiser was married second time to Nicole Kidman, who was his previous co-star. From Nicole Kidman, Cruiser had two children, Isabella and Connor. Before their 10th anniversary they separated. Cruise has a daughter Suri from his third wife, the actress Katie Holmes whom he married in 2006.

Cruise received three Academic Awards and three Golden Globes to his name.


Rumors about Cruise’s behavior and views made him a controversial figure. This controversy damaged his popularity.

Cruise enjoyed 14 years of relationship with “Paramount Pictures”. This relationship ended on August 22, 2006. Chairman of the Viacom (Paramount Pictures’ Parent Company) Summer Redstone stated that controversial behavior and views of Cruise has economically damaged the Cruise’s value as an actor and producer.
