
Famous for his comedy, burlesque writing style in the comic films, Woody Allen is a known American motion-picture director, screenwriter, actor, and author. He has written uncountable plays and directed many plays also. Woody Allen is one of America's most well-known filmmakers. He has made many flicks, comedy and serious that highlighted the theme on the relationships of men and women, death, and the significance and true aspect of life.
He was born on December 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. U.S. His complete name is Allan Stewart Konigsberg. His father was Martin and mother Nettie and he has an only one sibling. He has been romantically involved with many leading ladies who have starred in his movies. They were Louise Lasser, Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow. None of the relationship lasted long but all the ladies received great acknowledgement for their roles in his movies. He was first married to Harlene Rosen (1954–1959), then he married Louise Lasser (1966–1969) and now he has been married to Soon-Yi Previn whom he married in 1997 and they have adopted two daughters together.
As a teenager Allen was always interested in doing magic tricks. He was not very social and spent most of his time in his bedroom. He started writing jokes for a local newspaper and from there he got recognition. People started enjoying his jokes and he was asked to write more stuff. After he was done with his high school he got admitted in New York University and he opted motion picture as his majors. Later he joined the night school at City College but he was not satisfied and pleased, so he dropped out of both institutions. Writing comedy always captivated and inspired him, so he chooses this as his career.
At an early age of 20, almost twenty thousand short jokes were at his credit, which he has sold to different newspapers. Meanwhile he was also writing one script for one of the television's leading comedy stars, Sid Caesar. In the interim, he also started learning and taking lessons of literature and philosophy.
Allen stated performing on his own work in a nightclub in New York. He come in limelight and started appearing on the silver screen. His great achievements on television and success stories of the night club beg him a nomination for a comedy album in Grammy (a recording industry award) in 1964.
Love and admiration of movies led him to write his first script what’s New, Pussycat? He performed in films also. For him it comes as a very terrible experience and that made him unhappy as he wanted to control the whole cast. Luckily, What's New, Pussycat? It was so victorious and it did very well, that Allen’s dream for future ventures come true. His successful films including, Take the Money and Run (1969), Bananas (1971), Don’t Drink the Water, Play It Again, Sam (1972), Sleeper (1973), and Love and Death (1975).
Lasser performed in quite a few of Allen's earlier films. Keaton emerged not only in Annie Hall, but in addition in Bananas; Play It Again, Sam; Sleeper; Love and Death; Interiors; Manhattan; and Radio Days.
During early eighties Allen started working with his new off-screen partner, artist Mia Farrow, in a film that was based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream. Farrow also appeared in Zelig, Broadway Danny Rose, and The Purple Rose of Cairo. The flick Hannah and Her Sisters was given three Oscars.
He also made few serious movies including Annie Hall. The picture was awarded four Academy Awards) including Best Screenplay (script) for Allen. Following the success of Annie Hall, he made Interiors (1978) and Manhattan (1979), both of which were more somber and serious than comedy. After these movies, his artistic ability as a serious film-maker was certainly accepted and his hidden talent was reveled through his movies.
