Madhavan off to Bangkok to build homes for needy people in Thailand
Madhavan may be totally immersed in the promotion of his upcoming release 3 Idiots. However, in the midst of his hectic schedule, he is making sure that his commitment to social causes aren't impacted. Yesterday, he flew off to Bangkok for a couple of days to participate in a program where he would be building homes for the needy people in Thailand. This would be for an organization called 'Habitat for Humanity'.
Says a source from the organization, "Maddy (as he is lovingly called) has shown great passion in this cause. As a part of this program, we construct houses from scratch for the needy people and hence provide them safe, decent and affordable shelter."
An organization that began operations more than 20 years back, it has already built close to 30000 houses across the globe, including India.
Madhavan would be stationed in a place near Bangkok for 2 days (16th/17th November) and would be back in the country to resume promotion for 3 Idiots. During his stay, he would be working extensively along with other celebrities and volunteers who would be given ready made building material to be put together that would result in instant putting coming up of houses.
Other than Madhavan, other prominent celebrities from India who have lent their hand in this cause are John Abraham and Pooja Bedi. Popular screen name Jet Lee too has been an active participant over the years.
The program is supported by former US president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jimmy Carter, who along with his wife Rosalynn Carter, have committed to donate one week of his time every year to Habitat.
On contacted on the eve of his travel, Madhavan was reluctant to talk about the visit. All he was willing to confirm was that he was indeed travelling for the cause. "I am not the only person who does this; there are lot of others too who do something like this quietly. It's a feeling of immense satisfaction when you see needy people getting a shelter for themselves", he said.
