Aamir Khan has highlighted a number of varied issues of society through his maiden TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' and also has taken steps to further solve these issues on government level. One of the episodes of the show highlighted the issue of some people who are looked down upon as untouchables and social outcastes.
Aamir raised this issue and for this purpose both Aamir and Uday Shankar (CEO of Star India) have been awarded by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. While receiving this award, Aamir was quite emotional and he said that this issue is quite close to his heart. Uday was awarded as he went against the rules and broadcasted such episode on television.
This event was also honored by the presence of Home Minister - Sushil Kumar Shinde, Information and Broadcasting Minister - Ambika Soni and Delhi Chief Minister - Shiela Dixit.
