Remake of Zanjeer by Apoorva Lakhia is in its last phase of completion but still there is legal tussle over copyright of this movie. Famous writer Salim Khan has asked for a compensation of Rs. 6 crores. This amount he demanded as royalty from producers Reliance Entertainment and Amit Mehra as he had co-written original Zanjeer with Javed Akhtar.
The case was put up to the Scriptwriter's Association where he made demand for fair royalty share. He stated that he wrote the original part of Zanjeer with Javed Akhtar and this movie was licensed to Prakash Mehra stating that they will be eligible for royalty if the film is remade.
Salim Khan has asked for Rs. 3 crore for each version of the movie including Hindi and Telugu. The makers of Zanjeer are yet to react at this demand of Salim Khan.
