Many of the Bollywood celebrities complain of facing strict laws at the airport when they come from abroad. Latest one on this list is famous singer Mika. It is reported that yesterday, Mika was arrested at the Mumbai Airport by Customs. He was coming back from Bangkok through a private airline and was carrying money of Rs. 3 lakh and 12,000 dollars.
It is a rule under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) that anyone entering India with money more than Rs. 75,000 and 5,000 dollars had to declare their whereabouts for this money. Thus Mika was arrested under this act as he didn’t make a declaration of carrying this money.
The Air Intelligence Unit stopped this singer on arrival and during inspection apart from this money, there were two liquor bottles found of foreign brand. Also there were some other valuable branded items.
Mika was granted bail however the currency and items above duty free limit were seized by the customs. A case is also filed against him under FEMA.
