This is the forthcoming project of Karan Johar and there is absolute expectation of brilliant
music here as we have seen in earlier movies of Karan. The music album of this movie Student Of The Year would surely be a youthful outing as this movie is set in a campus premise. For this movie, brilliant composers Vishal-Shekhar are behind the album to exceed the expectations much further. This is however the first time that the duo composers will be working with Karan Johar as the director of the movie and thus one wants to hear what the combination brings out for audiences as the music album. The music album of the movie hits the start right with the Nazia Hassan's legendary track 'Disco Deewane' in the beginning of the album. This song is rehashed as ‘The Disco Song’.
This song is not a remix version but picks up the core hook of the track 'Disco Deewane' and the result here is quite attractive and appealing. Nazia Hassan is no more but she would have definitely praised this attempt if she was alive. Vishal-Shekhar has successfully retained her magic in the movie with a brilliant mix of sound. Song is sung brilliantly well by Benny Dayal and Sunidhi Chauhan. This one is surely going to be a chartbuster and will be heard in discos and clubs over the dance floors.
Next track in the album is titled 'Ishq Wala Love' which brings Salim Merchant behind the mike. This one is a soft number with beautiful melody set in an excellent background. Neeti Mohan proves herself well as the female voice for this track. This song has a touch of A.R. Rahman’s melody here with the way this song is arranged.
Later this track is joined by Shekhar Ravjiani and this romantic number will make it to the hit list love songs from Karan Johar’s outings. This one is another chartbuster number of this album.
Then comes 'Kukkad' and this one is another Punjabi track that would be much similar to the songs from Band Baaja Baraat or Bittoo Boss. This one would not be able to appeal you in the first listening however after 3-4 times you hear this song by Shahid Mallya, it would become one of your hot favorites. This song would definitely appeal people from North and DJs playing dance numbers at the weddings and other celebrations.
Next is a surprise package in the album titled 'Radha'. This track brings Shreya Ghoshal begind the mike and the lyrics Sang Ghoome Kanhaiya' would make you think how this song would suit the genre and would fit where in the movie. however the later part of the song reveals that this was just an introduction to what is actually offered here with this track. The lyrics here are a perfect blend of Hindi and English and here duo Vishal-Shekhar also appears as singers. This one is an entertaining and fun filled dance number.
Vishal Dadlani again is behind the mike with the song 'Ratta Maar'. This one is a campus outing set with western musicals. This song is joined by Shefali Alvarez and is a situational track which brings together all the students of the campus. The physical appearance of the track would surely further beautify it and would add appeal on screen.
Next outing of this album is 'Vele' and this song is surely neck to neck with the first outing of this album 'The Disco Song'. This song would also be quite popular score and is a song about being carefree in life. This song is based on the concept of living the life to the fullest without caring about anything. This one has some of the most appealing beats and this one deserves a remix version as well. This track would make it to the list of youth listeners and will be one of the favorites for DJs to play on the dance floors. This track brings Vishal and Shekhar again behind the mike.
The music album of this movie ends really well with the song 'Mashup of the Year'. This song is a perfect blend where all the songs of the album are mixed together and assembled in a perfect form. This final outing is superb and the sound here is effortless. This one is surely not a forced version and creates the right appeal of concluding number.
Student Of The Year is a winning album for Vishal-Shekhar with all the quality tracks. All the tracks of the album compliment the mood of the campus premises for sure. Karan Johar’s movies are known for their awesome music choice and this one without any star cast successfully creates the right appeal. Most of the songs here would go straight to become chartbusters and now one waits to see the charm of these numbers on screen.
